What You Need to Know About Suicide

What You Need to Know About Suicide

  • July 25, 2017
  • Blog PostVideo

This is a chapter from my book, Hardcore Self Help: F**K Depression called “A Chapter About Suicide”. There has been a great deal of mention about suicide recently in the media and on social media. There have also been many questions and misunderstandings about the topic. This chapter is definitely not the end-all-be-all regarding suicide, but it’s supposed to be a tool to help you better understand yourself or a loved one. Many have expressed that they don’t know what to do when a friend is suicidal or how to help people aside from sharing the hotline number. This post is one way you can help. Share this post directly or for everyone on your social media feeds. You never know who is watching. Full written chapter below the video.

Very special episode this week for you! I’ve been meaning to get my wife on the show for a good while now. This is the first time that I’ve ever interviewed her about her experiences with mental illness. I have talked about her in my TEDx talk and my books, so this was a really nice opportunity to sit down for a while and just chat about her life. We talk about what it’s like being married to me, her earliest anxiety experiences, motherhood, her hospitalization, and things that have helped her progress in her mental health journey.

Heavy hitting questions today. Love it! I’m a little sick in this episode, so please pardon any congestion etc. That said, there are some really good points in this episode, particularly in relation to the first question.

I dropped a couple links in the intro. Here they are: http://duffthepsych.com/dementia for my new book andhttp://duffthepsych.com/resources for all sorts of psych resources that I like.

Here are the questions covered in this episode:

  • How can I bring up suicidal thoughts to my doctor?
  • What can I do about my agoraphobia?
  • How can I stop being paranoid in my relationship?

As always please send me your questions (and share the show). You can reach me via email atduffthepsych@gmail.com or on twitter at http://twitter.com/duffthepsych

How To Explain Depression | A Letter

How To Explain Depression | A Letter

  • January 10, 2016
  • Blog PostLetterPopular

In my first book, I wrote a letter from the point of view of someone dealing with anxiety. The idea was that you could take that letter verbatim or use it as inspiration to help those people in your life that just don’t “get it” to better understand what it is that you are dealing with. In F**k Depression, I have decided to continue that idea, and came up with a letter on how to explain depression. Please feel free to use it in whatever way might be useful with you. I also included it as a downloadable PDF so you can print and give it to someone in your life.

I also have a letter for those dealing with anxiety. Find it here.
